R&S Logistics and R&S Warehousing Solutions are used interchangeably in this blog post. They are one and the same company!

Quote from Joe, CEO at R&S Logistics

The first week of classes went great. It was really exciting to see it come together. Already, we've talked about an introduction to logistics, established groups (and some fun competition to come), arranged tours, and started talking about LEAN. It's been really cool to see this come to life after months of planning!

R&S Logistics recently partnered with The University of Tennessee Haslam College of Business as a part of their Global Supply Chain Institute (which is #2 in the nation!). We actually talked more about this here on a former blog post. It’s been an exciting week as the first full week of classes is complete already!

First Week Recap

Because this class is a hands-on, interactive 3PL class, it’s a shorter 6 week class. This means we hit the ground running! Class is in session everyday of the week.

In this first week, we spent several days in the classroom and one day at our KX1 Knoxville warehouse and distribution center. This facility houses a variety of customers from big and bulky items and nutraceuticals to ecommerce fulfillment. At approximately 100,000 square feet, this warehouse is located close to downtown Knoxville and a short 15 minute drive from UT’s campus.

What UT Students Learned

Though syllabus week, we covered much more than a general syllabus. Focused on teaching and showing students what it looks like to work in a live 3PL facility, it’s crucial students learn about LEAN manufacturing, types of warehouse automation, picking and packing orders, distribution operations, and transportation.

In this first week, students have already learned about what LEAN manufacturing is, why it matters in a warehouse and distribution facility, and how it looks inside a live East TN fulfillment warehouse.

What We’re Excited About

As one of R&S’s team members put it, “This is really the first of its kind. R&S is really differentiating itself in the 3PL industry altogether with this class.”

Partnering with one of the top ranked university supply chain programs in the nation is a big deal. No other 3PLs out there are doing this.

However, we’re not saying this to toot our own horn. This truly is a win-win-win partnership and unique collaboration we’re so honored and grateful to be a part of. We’ve got more to share on this to come, but for now, we’re celebrating a great kick-off to the start of the spring semester. Go Vols!

🚚 The supply chain industry is always changing, so we always want to keep learning and stay on top of innovative trends.

This class is such a unique opportunity for us to do that for our team and our customers but also for the industry. It keeps us sharp, innovative, and creative for our customers!

“The reliability, flexibility, and professionalism of R&S make me know that I have a business partner I can rely on. It’s one less thing that I have to worry about.”
